How does the side intake vent come off. I pulling but the thing is going to snap if I apply any more force. Any idea where the clips are and how to release them?

I removed mine at the weekend, just 'lift' up from the base,
holding the thicker middle bit and pull up and out.
PING!

I did the job tonight, i am annoyed at Land Rover for crimping the ends of the drain pipes - why??

Anyway all seems to be working now.

NB the 2 side airbag panel screws/bolts (at side of windscreen) are very tight in. Began to scratch my head for a while until brute force got me there in the end.

NB2. watch out for the bendingof the headlining - go careful only make yourself the narrowest gap to squeeze your hand in.

Tested with jug of water and dribbles out just behind mudflaps.

HATS OFF TO THE GOOD GUYS ON HERE POSTING THE PHOTOGRAPHS - COULDNT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU. Thumbs Up

Good job - that i shouldn't have needed to do. GRRRRHHHH... Exclamation

Thumbs Up Glad it worked.

I don't think Land Rover have ever made a sunroof that did not leak or break in someway. The crimped ends of the pipes are supposed to be one way valves, ie let the water out but keep the mud/ water insects out of the car. I reality they stick up and block.

A quick thank you to all that have posted pics and instructions, my 2005 she is now leak free. Just Hoping it's not damaged too many of the internal electronics which got wet in the head/a pilar lining.

Hi Gareth many thanks for the info, you mention the A pillars in your article is it the same config for the C pillars with sun roof rear drain tubes, as on my vehicle the ingress is on the Headlining above the seat belt C pillar.

Regards

Paul.

Yes, except the drain holes are at the rear of the sunroof tray, and harder to get to.

All fixed now though thanks to this post and 3 metres of curtain wire from The Range for two quid. Cheapest fix I've ever applied. Very Happy

Disco 4 5l V8

Hi,

I also had problems with our US LR4 5l V8 with water from the sunroof. The drainage on the right side was clogged, no water, no air coming through.

I found this thread and the solution to cut the end of the drainage. But when I opened the air intake I saw, the the Disco 4 has modified ends. I also noticed, that the foam inside was totally wet and got broken when I took it out.

In the end the foam was for the WRONG left side, so the end of the drainage was blocked by the foam itself!!!

I only putted a part of it back and everything is fine now.

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Santorini BlackDiscovery 3

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and have just purchased my Disco 3 06, passengers floor well absolutely soaked.
Have read all posted on the forum regarding the drain pipe from the sunroof but I am very confused about one issue.
After taking down the roof-lining on the passengers side I found the drain pipe, not connected and the pipe from the sun-roof tray was blocked up with blue-tac,obviously been a ongoing problem for some time.
I have now reconnected the pipe and and pushed a rod down to clean the pipe.
The thing I am confused about is this,if the pipe is blocked at the end under the wheel arch why is the water coming into the foot well and not over flowing over the sunroof tray at the roof end.
Can anybody tell me what route the pipe takes as it go's down the door pillar as I am wondering if it is not going outside to the wheel arch.
Thanks for you help in advance. Crying or Very sad

Hi Wayner

Not an expert pal but the way I understand it is that if the sunroof channel backs up with water from a blockage then it can re-enter the car through another hole or gap around the sunroof drain channel and in the process wets the roof lining and also runs down the door pillar where it spills onto the carpet at the bottom.

Im sure some-one will be along with the specifics but I think thats basiacally it

Wayner,

Been through much the same last year. What is possibly your problem is that in previous attempts to clean the tubes (rodding or otherwise) they have become disconnected from the elbows that take the water through to the wheel arch. Behind the dash (a pig to get to but is achievable without wholesale removal) you will find on each side, the joint. These are not sealed / glued and it's very easy to dislodge the downpipe from it. Net result, all water from the sunroof gushes out into the footwell BIG TIME.

At the same time as checking / fixing these, cut back the starfish ends where they exit into the wheelarch - they get blocked with muck / crud.

I also recommend that you lift the sill plates and do whatever you can to extract the water from under the carpets; you will be suprised how much is under there and if you stop the leak without removing the excess, your carpets will remain wet for a considerable time - not to mention the possible damage from having the loom swimming for extended periods of time.

Take your time and believe me, you will sort it. I did - have been more than a year now bone dry even through the latest deluges
