Strange, my service is due in a week, I got the usual dash reminder a couple of weeks before hand. just reset it. It also helps if you have had to disconnect the battery, that sends to trip the service due display.

i cannot get this to work. i put the key in, push once the reset button, then leav it, and then push and hold it while turning the key so that light and system check is done. no blinking service indicator.
also tried inserting the key and pushing and holding the reset button while turning the key so that light and system check is done. again no blinking serv. indicator
what am i doing wrong ? J.p

Think I read that the reset procedure only works from a certaion MY date onwards, if like mine you have a 2005 than I think it's too early Without a shepherd, sheep are not a flock

To clarify:
Somewhere between 2006 and 2007 Land Rover started fitting instrument Packs that had the ability, through the sequence dangerdave, the OP notes, to self reset the Service interval reminder / Announcer (SIA) according to built in re set values.
However this simply does not work on earlier vehicles, typically fitted with earlier instrument packs, unless after the change, they had their instrument packs replaced with a later spec one for some reason.
Therefore someone with an 05 or 06 vehicle might report it working but it's really quite rare.
Earlier vehicle owners therefore used to have no other choice but to have their vehicles serviced and have their reminders reset at a main dealers, again only as per pre set values.
But as crwoody states, there is now another option in the form of the BBS Canmate SRT.
Of course it can do the same as main dealers can but also offers a lot more besides.
See this thread, and my post on it to get more information about its capabilities.
