Finland 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3

Hi,

Fairly mild temperatures so far and the winter with minus grades actually started last weekend (at least in southern parts of the country; Lapland is a different story). A couple of links to cover the topics discussed so far:

SNOW: http://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/snow-statistics shows the most obvious places to look for it. The Finnish Meteorological Institute website provides also other info about the climate etc.

FUEL: please check the specs for diesel products provided by Neste http://www.nesteoil.com/default.asp?path=1,41,535,547,557,6458. Winter diesel -29/-32 is the stuff generally available here. Artic grade -40/-44 available on selected stations. Check (and "fortify") the coolant and windshield washer liquid as well!

ROAD CONDITIONS: actual conditions can be seen throug Road Weather Cameras http://www2.liikennevirasto.fi/alk/english/kelikamerat/

Finally, warm clothing is recommended (including proper footwear and good pair of gloves, hat & jacket were already mentioned). Start in Helsinki and four days probably excludes Lapland (not impossible but it takes two long days to get there and drive back). Temperaturewise you should be prepared to cope with anything between +2 and -38 C although readings below -30 aren't that common to be honest.

Hope this helps,

Tom

What's happend is it global warming, or is it just a big difference in north vs south Finland ? As I stated I can remember being in Rovaniemi a few years back and ther temps were way down in the sub Zero's. In fact Mercedes & Rover Group use to undertake cold climate testing in Rovaniemi.

Sorry, just read you itinerary!
Not so far north so you shouldn't have much trouble.

Weather report shows snow in Helsinki today but only slush at the moment I'm afraid!
On the plus side Helsinki has a dangerous slippy driving warning! (hope you have good winter tyres)
I'm sure you will see snow. When you get more time you can visit here in Lapland we have plenty!!
