Horn goign off when trying to lock car

Seem to be having issues when locking with remote.
Even if we have only accessed through drivers door, when we come to look the car get the beep beep instead of the the locking noise.
We have to then open and close all doors then press the unlock button in the car and start again, any idea's would be great.

I had this problem when an actuator for one of the door locks failed. I clicked the remote, the horn sounded, then I checked the doors and found one wasnt locking, the other three had even though the horn had sounded. Try that and see if it helps identify the fault.

I had the same problem. Ordered a new part (SWITCH - HOOD ANTI-THEFT Part No.: LR024358) from The Large One (many thanks Nick!) , fitted in a few minutes and everything was ok. No more disturbing the neighbours at night with the horn honking when I arm the alarm.

Actually, I refitted a few times, as you need to ensure that the contacts are totally free of any gunk/grease as that will prevent a clean circuit. That includes the metal latch which completes the connection.

Had a similar prob this morning - couldn't find the sensor/switch but liberally coated all catches with WD40 - worked o.k. until next opening of bonnet - then resorted to "Bonnet open" message.
Would like to locate sensor/switch - all help appreciated, thanks,

JL

I had the same issue a few weeks back. Bonnet open message on dash, new switch from TLO and problem solved. Razz

Thanks for info on TLO and sorry for mixed message but I'm looking for the sensor/switch position under the bonnet - have looked but don't really know what I'm looking for,

I had this on and off for a while, and like the others it was the bonnet switch.

However I didn't buy a new one.
There is a metal blade on top of it that activates the switch when the arm attached to the bonnet touches it. I got the right angled end of a scriber under it and bent it upwards slightly and haven't had an issue since. I'm convinced it had flattened out over time and the arm was no longer moving it enough contact to activate the switch.

Worth a try before buying a new switch.

Hi JL, the switch is left hsnd side of the grill, just look for the switch wires. Easier to take the grill out whether it's to attempt a repair as Nasher suggests or replace. Just press the plastic tabs and the swich comes away. If you get someone to sit in the car while you press the microswitch the bonnet open message should go on and off if it's working.

Update - it's easy when you're pointed in the correct direction - bit of a fiddle and it locked first time, thanks.
