I also have the same problem. It does not want to close completely. Needs about one cm more to line up with the Lighter on the right hand side.

When reported to the dealer they have did not respond, kind of ignore it at the last service.

Checked it tonight to try and move the spring at the back, but I cannot get the sliding mech out, only the tray.

Any ideas ?

I bought the one on eBay but it was broken too!

However, I allowed me to examine it and understand the way that they break. There is a short length of clock spring. The outer end is secured in a slot at the top front enge of the ashtray recess, The rest of the spring is coiled behind the ashtray slide and applies pressure to slide it out. There is a simple push-push latch to hold the ashtray shut. On both my examples the plastic securing the fixed end of the spring has broken. This releases the spring which falls into the space behind the ashtray slide. Then there is no spring to open the ashtray and the loose spring also prevents it from closing completely.

I have decided that it is not worth replacing as it will probably fail again
