Had a similar problem myself which started last Friday. Transmission fault, HDC and special progs not available. Took it to the main stealers at Kendal who diagnosed a faulty brake light switch.
Brake light switch replaced (£6.93), fault gone
As I still had the original battery fitted I had this replaced as a precaution.

Battery has been on charge over night and it shows 12v from cold when running goes upto 15v? this D3 has had a new alternator fitted to it and proves to work ,when running it goes upto 15v
New battery fitted today see how that goes
Day 1 fault not shown up today but noticed front heated windowscreen now working

I'd only had my D3 4 days when it showed the nightmare of "transmisssion fault" on start up, but cleared when switched off/on. Thankfully, some of the threads on here suggest it isn't likely to be too serious and as a first step I followed another thread and dismantled and cleaned the brake light switch which had a fair bit of carbon deposit build-up. It was fine after that.... for 24hrs.
I reckon I'll change the battery next as it's an '06 so probably the original. Fingers crossed

| Best replacement battery for '06 HSE? |
|
Any advice on best battery to fit, as no two on-line suppliers seem to offer the same part code?
I downloaded a Bosch Application guide which states S6 002 (95Ah 850cca) or S5 013 (100Ah 830cca), with S6 seeming to be a high spec despite lower Ah

Hi Dragonfly,
What are the CCA of the two batteries that you are considering?
It is worth noting that the LR replacement battery has 950CCA. The Bearded Dragon

Just did this. Car not used since yesterday pm, voltage showing 12.1 pre-test. It dropped to 10.3V on start-up and quickly up to 13.1V once running. No transmission fault registered this time but it's a tad warmer than last week.
Is 950cca LR battery to ensure it'll start in the middle of a Nordic winter, or also valuable in our climate? It seems odd the recommended batteries from decent brands like Bosch and Varta (who's logo is on my OE battery) are 830-850. LR battery is an extra £30 over the motorfactor's Varta
Electrics are def not my thing, so any advice gratefully received before I splash the cash

Hi Dragon,
IIRC the original D3 battery showed itself to have insufficient CCA in the UK cold, hence the upgrade.
I suspect that the aftermrket may be unaware of the change in specs.
If I were you, I would go for the LR battery.
Best Wishes,
