I agree with catweasel if the bore has groves then its a waste of time, had success on a couple, if the car has been off road then warm the unit up before attempting to remove any bolts as this aids in removal of them.

Will strip it & check the bore first. Worse case, at least it's a drying of the dessicant for future replacment How To ? - Change your Brake Disks Pads Shoes Sensors August 2011 NEW V1.6a

Bodsy you can use the silica from the sacks you get in parcels to keep things free from damp, we have supplies of it at work as we use it in all the black boxes...

Well I had a couple of hours spare yesterday to look at this project. Have taken a few pics along the way, but here's the Piston and the Bore.

The Piston has what I beleive to be a Carbon Ring, which shows signs of wear, but I've turned the ring over so the less worn bit is where the worn bit was.
The Bore has grooves in it, but not in the direction that I would expect if it is knackered. So from that, I assume that it is OK.
Anyone have any other views on that wear?
On the hunt now for some 10A grade silica gel or Molecular Sieve material for the dryer.... How To ? - Change your Brake Disks Pads Shoes Sensors August 2011 NEW V1.6a

Our's is noisy due to an over enthusiatsic guy jacking the car up in the wrong place
The bracket has been replaced but it still noisy and dealer is saying the compressor is damaged - Can this be fixed/repaired or is a replacement the only solution to quiet motoring again?

depends on whether it's just the bracket that has broken. but as youi've replaced it, it could be almost anything. Perhaps the motor case is dented or the motor is now misalinged. Either way, it sounds like you need to get it replaced.
If you get the whole unit including bracket, then I'd be interested in your recently purchased bracket as min has a bolt sheared off in it......

You would think so but its a long story!
Car had a seriously flat tyre but managed to get enough air in it to nurse it to Local indi garage to ask for trolley jack. They didn't have one but offred the services of nice "Eastern European" car valleter to help and HE jacked it the wrong place As soon as I heard the first "crack" I knew what he had done.
After the tyre was changed it was clear we now had a noisy compressor and I emailed and also visited the garage asking for assistance but even though we know the guy he has dismissed the issue and offered no assitance or accepts any liability.
In the end I got the bracket replaced hoping it was the only problem but alas not. Main dealer service and MOT yesterday has confirmed that the compressor is damaged and only option is to replace.
Needless to say an email and copy of the report is being sent to the Indi before any further action or naming and shaming here

I have done a couple now and the bolts have sheared off just drill the old bolt stem out and re-thread it or just use a self tapping bolt...if the rest of the bracket is ok.
I have a compressor but need a bolt for the spring and plunger on the head as this one sheared off..
Bodsy I would say your pump bore is this one I did and its the very old type the bore is very smooth, its off a 2005 car.. I would see if you can clean it up a bit with a honing tool..

Thanks Mick, it's from Euan's 2005 one. Can't work out why the marking would be going around the bore instead of up/down it. Wonder what a new one looks like? (Anyone want to take a look ) Perhaps it's supposed to have the striations going in that direction to help wear the carbon ring and keep it 'lubricated' as such?
I really can't think of any other reason for it to be marked in that way as it's all the way to the top where even the carbon ring cannot get to...... How To ? - Change your Brake Disks Pads Shoes Sensors August 2011 NEW V1.6a
