Are you saying that you can 'push' the re-charge from the Solar panel back to the battery down the Cig't lighter socket circuit? Very neat solution if it's OK !

From memories of my D3 and the "Wiggs" modification, yes. You need the socket to be live all the time which means removing a relay and inserting a bridging wire in its place.

I bought a couple of these (item 300642264243 on that well known auction site).
I received them today. Didn't fit them to the D3 yet, but connected them to SWMBO's old car battery.
In the few minutes I spent testing things out I got a max of 60mA current from a single panel and around 100mA from both panels connected in parallel, but the only sunlight I had was through a small closed window only. They supposedly supply a max of 200mA per panel. I think in ideal conditions that might be possible and it seems like they might actually work to keep the battery in good shape.
I was very happy with the elastic straps at the back of the panels, which would have enabled me to fit the things to the sun visors, but unfortunately the straps don't stretch far enough to allow me to slip onto the sun visors. SWMBO will lengthen these elastic straps for me with her sewing prowess though so that should be sorted too
Anyway, I will update this thread with more voltage and current readings once I get to test things out under bright sunlight on the dashboard of the D3 connected to the D3 battery. Dennis
